The Bio Collectors Team

JLEN Environmental Assets Group Ltd acquires majority stake in Bio Collectors.

Bio Collectors is pleased to announce a partnership with John Laing Environmental Assets Group Ltd (JLEN).  JLEN is an environmental infrastructure fund that invests in and operates a number of renewable energy and waste processing companies in the UK including seven other AD plants.

The announcement represents a significant new chapter in the ongoing growth of Bio Collectors, while further expanding JLEN’s significant portfolio of renewable energy assets. It also marks JLEN’s first acquisition into food waste fuelled anaerobic digestion (AD) – the greenest way of recycling food waste.

Paul Killoughery, Founder & MD, Bio Collectors, retains oversight and running of the business and confirms that from a customers point of view it is business as usual for the food waste collector. “This new partnership will allow our business to truly focus on providing cutting-edge, sustainable services to businesses across London. We will continue to operate our award-winning collections for London’s businesses, helping them to realise the many cost and environmental benefits of segregated food waste services”

Bio Collectors win another award for leading innovators in Food Waste Recycling

Bio Collectors have won the Leading Innovators in Food Waste Recycling award from SME News. The award is in recognition for our work with developing food-waste derived CNG powered services for our clients and for our ever growing contribution to the circular economy.
If your business produces food waste and wants to ensure it is being recycled and repurposed in the most cost effective and environmentally beneficial manner possible, contact us today to find out how we can help.

Bio Collectors win the Blue Patch 2019 Circular Economy award

Its been a great year for Bio Collector’s. Our new CNG vehicles are out providing sustainable food waste powered collections to our many customers and people are taking notice!

(If you haven’t already heard about our big change, click here.)

We were recently presented with the Blue Patch 2019 Circular Economy award for our ongoing CNG conversion project where we are turning the food waste we collect into a specialised fuel that can power our new collection vehicles. Blue Patch champion SME businesses looking to create more socially aware and environmentally friendly products and services and provide a space for them to be seen by like-minded customers.

We are very grateful for their recognition of the hard work it’s taken to get here and the huge environmental benefits our conversion will bring.

Congratulations to all of this years winners and if you want to read more about Blue Patch’s work you can visit their website here.

Bio Collectors through to SME Green Award final

As many of you may already be aware, Bio Collectors are in the process of upgrading the fleet to run on clean and sustainable Biogas/CNG power, produced from recycling food waste at our Mitcham facility. (For those of you that don’t, click here)

This move away from fossil fuels represents a huge shift in our operations to an even more sustainable service that is ready to meet the burgeoning needs of the circular economy in London. Fueling our vehicles using the very food waste we collect is a quite literal example of how, with a little hard work, it is possible to create modern, effective services that also take into account our environment and the effect it can have on our roads. All these new vehicles are naturally ULEZ compliant, more than meeting the requirements of the London Mayor’s goal of reducing air pollution around the Capital, especially from HGV traffic.

Making it to the SME Green Award final stages is a recognition of the importance of such changes, not only to businesses but also to London as a whole. We hope to inspire other companies to look at their own operations in the same way, moving towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly methods of working for the benefit of everyone.

Keep your fingers crossed for us in December.

Recycling Revolution – CNG Power @ Bio Collectors, three months in.

Doesn’t time fly?!
Back in April, Bio Collectors unveiled the first of our food waste derived CNG powered vehicles due to begin service. That vehicle represented just the beginning of our transition as a company to a more sustainable model of working and realising our goal of becoming a truly closed loop business.

Thanks to our 10 year partnership with the West London Waste Authority, Bio Collectors has been able to set itself on course to be one of the most sustainable companies operating on London’s roads by not only running our vehicles on cleaner, sustainable biogas/CNG but by also creating the biogas ourselves from the very food waste we collect!
Since April a further SIX CNG-powered vehicles have been added to our fleet with a variety of capabilities and capacities that enable us to continue providing our award-winning AD service to London’s businesses but now more sustainably than ever!
The new vehicles have replaced over 1/3 of our fleet already with more due to come into service in the coming months. Our transition to an entirely CNG powered fleet is well on track and already making a significant difference.
In the 3 months since the first announcement, the use of CNG to power the fleet has resulted in almost 20,000 liters of diesel saved from use over the same period in 2018 and that’s just the tip of the iceberg! It also represents tens of thousands of kilos of carbon dioxide and diesel emissions kept from being released, it represents cleaner air and less pollution on London’s roads for everyone and perhaps most importantly, it shows that it can be done!

Bio Collector’s oversee every stage of the recycling from pick-up to processing to powering the vehicles, demonstrating a real, working example of the circular economy in action all under one roof.

Creating fuel and resources from food waste is at the heart of Bio Collector’s mission and our ongoing investment in developing anaerobic digestion technology to harness it’s full potential will hopefully prove to be an inspiration for other’s looking to meet the burgeoning needs of a circular economy, head-on.

CNG/Biogas power has the potential to help significantly reduce pollution and unnecessary wastage, not only in London but country wide. As a company, Bio Collectors are proud to help lead the way in providing forward thinking and highly sustainable solutions to London’s food waste problem.
